Sore Throat Honey Elixir

Updated: Apr 29, 2020

My gorgeous daughter wanted to join me in this video to tell you about our great sore throat honey recipe that uses the combined healing powers of raw honey and essential oils.  Raw honey is such a great product to have in your pantry and your first aid kit!  Did you know that raw honey is antibacterial because the bees are clever enough to put an enzyme in it that makes hydrogen peroxide! You may have heard about people putting raw honey on wounds and burns (after immediate first aid measures of course), well this is more than just an old wives tale… raw honey has been found in studies to be as effective as silver sulfurdiazine! It is believed that it is the drying nature of the simple sugars and honey’s antibacterial nature that is responsible for the powerful healing.

But I digress, back to sore throats and irritating coughs.  Raw honey has been used for centuries to help soothe a sore, scratchy throat believed to be due to its antioxidant and antibacterial properties.  Manuka honey is perhaps the most well known for it’s strong immune support. More recently studies have shown raw honey to be as effective as dextromethorphan in relieving night time coughs as well! Dextromethorphan is found in pharmaceuticals such as Robitussin dry cough forte, Bisolvon dry cough and Benadryl for the family dry forte.

In our DIY sore throat honey elixir we have added the immune supporting benefits of doTERRA essential oils to our locally sourced, raw honey.  The exact immune supporting oils you use can be mixed and matched to what you have in your oil box at the time but always ensure that the oils you choose are safe for ingestion.

I hope you enjoy our video. If you would like to purchase food grade CPtG essential oils you can learn a little bit more about them here.
