Italian Salad Dressing

Updated: Apr 30, 2020

Once you’ve made this recipe it will be so easy to whip up a tasty, fresh Italian salad dressing at home that you won’t ever want to resort to using commercially prepared dressing again!

The great thing about this recipe is that you pre-make the “dry mix” and can keep this in the cupboard for months, then all you have to do is add some oil, vinegar and water and voila – thick and tasty dressing with all the oomph and tang that italian dressing should have.  Give it a try, guaranteed not to disappoint!

I am going to write this recipe back to front and give you the finishing instructions first, so you can see just how easy it is once you have your dry mix prepped in the pantry.

Italian Salad Dressing Ingredients:

2/3 cup extra virgin olive oil 1/4 cup white wine vinegar 2 tbs water 2 tbs GGE Dry Mix

Method:

Combine all the ingredients in a glass jar.  Shake well to combine.  Drizzle over salad.

This salad dressing will keep well in the pantry or fridge.

GGE Dry Mix Ingredients:

1 tbs garlic powder 1 tbs onion powder 1 tbs white sugar 2 tbs dried oregano 1 tsp ground black pepper 1/2 tsp dried thyme 1 tsp dried basil 1 tbs dried parsely 1/2 tsp celery salt 2 tbs salt

GGE Dry Mix Method:

Here you have a choice … either throw all the ingredients into the jar, give it a shake and you are good to go with a rustic style dressing.

Or do as I do, which is … throw all the ingredients into the coffee grinder and pulse several times so that all the ingredients are powdered and well combined.  Powdering all the ingredients has benefit of quickly imparting their flavour into the liquid (plus the sugar dissolves easily) and also has the additional plus of thickening the dressing liquid slightly, similar to commercial dressings.

This dry mix will keep for months in the pantry.

A note from Gracious Goodness :

You can of course adjust this recipe to suit your own individual tastes… more of a favourite herb than another, more sugar, less sugar, more vinegar, more oil.  The fine tuning is very much up to you and your palate.  The herbs listed are the ones traditionally used in italian dressings.

It is also easy to sub out the sugar for stevia or xylitol powder to turn this salad dressing into a great LCHF (low carb healthy fat) recipe as well!

This is such a great recipe and everything keeps for so long that a little extra of the dressing will be a handy addition to your pantry if you find you have more than you need.  Give it a try… I’ve had so many compliments over this one that I am sure you will love it!
